Praised for their “huge range of dynamics, massive sound, and spontaneity” (American Record Guide), the Viano String Quartet are former major prize winners at the Wigmore Hall, Osaka, and Fischoff International String Quartet Competitions. Formed in 2015 at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, where they are the school’s inaugural ensemble in residence. Together they have performed with world class musicians such as pianists Emanuel Ax and Elisso Virsaladze, violist Paul Coletti, violinist Martin Beaver, and vocalist Hila Plitmann.

The name “Viano” was created to describe the four individual instruments in a string quartet interacting as one. Each of the four instruments begins with the letter “v” and, like a piano, all of the strings working together as a string quartet, play both harmony and melody, creating a unified instrument, called the “Viano.”

Joseph Haydn: String Quartet in G Major, opus 76, no. 1; Jordan Nelson: Join for String Quartet (world premiere); Antonín Dvořák: String Quartet no. 13 in G Major, opus 106
