ArtPower presents Kendrick Scott Oracle
La Jolla, C.A.—ArtPower at UC San Diego presents the innovative jazz band Kendrick Scott Oracle on Friday, December 4, at 8 p.m. at The Loft at UC San Diego. Formed by award–winning drummer Kendrick Scott and featuring some of today’s finest young jazz musicians—including saxophonist John Ellis, keyboardist Taylor Eigsti, guitarist Mike Moreno, and bassist Joe Sanders—the Kendrick Scott Oracle (KSO) utilizes fresh and insightful methods of musical design to bring forth to the jazz world an array thought-provoking pieces. The performance will feature tracks from the band’s latest album—We Are The Drum—a collaborative effort that exhibits each member’s wide range of compositional, collaborative, and performance skills. Tickets for this event are $18–28 and can be ordered online at boxoffice.ucsd.edu or by calling the box office at 858.534.TIXS (8497). Additional program information can be found at artpower.ucsd.edu.
About Kendrick Scott Oracle
Inspired by his experiences as drummer with Terence Blanchard’s band, Kendrick Scott established KSO in 2006 to, in the words of Blanchard, not only “[bring] innovation to the music” but also “[create] a safe place for young talent to develop and grow.” Although the renown drummer guides the sessions, Scott stresses how each band member contributes in a different way, and, with regards to their latest album We Are The Drum, says, “the accent is on ‘we’ in the title.” With styling described as soulful, modern, and textural; KSO found inspiration through artists including Milton Nascimento, the Miles Davis quartet, and Kendrick Lamar. Through their music, KSO challenges the subjects of racial history, isolation, spiritual connectivity, and the power of the individual.
